Towan Beach, is a long sand and shingle beach with rock pools at low tide and is situated on the south-eastern tip of the Roseland. It can be reached by car by following signs to St Anthony from the church in Gerrans. Alternatively its a 40-50 minute walk from Portscatho along the SW coast path and this walk is highly recommended. There is a National trust car park and toilet facilities. Dogs are welcome all year round. Refreshments are provided Easter to October each year - teas, coffees, cream teas, cakes and bakes etc.
Porthcurnick Beach is a lovely wide and sheltered sandy beach facing south east across Gerrans Bay. Situated less than a 10 minute walk along the SW coast path from the village of Portscatho and owned by the national trust it is by far the most popular locally. Situated on the cliff top behind the beach is the Hidden Hut an open air cafe/restaurant that supplies drinks, snacks and hot meals in a delightful setting overlooking the beach. Follow the link to their website for more information on lunch dinner and there very popular summer feast nights. Public toilets are also situated near the cafe. Dogs are banned on this beach between Easter Day and 30th September.
Harbour beach and Tatams are located in Portscatho and are the closest beaches to our current properties and are very convenient keeping all village facilities at your fingertips. Best at low tide Tatams is the largest and is a long sandy beach reaching out into the bay. Its the perfect place for the kids to play with plenty of rock pools to explore and is convenient for those wanting a swim in the bay. Situated on the slipway overlooking the beach is Tatams Coffee shop, which is open in the summer for hot drinks and bakery snacks. In the winter it opens Thursday-Saturday in the evenings and serves delicious takeaway favourites including burgers, Pizzas and Kebabs. Dogs are banned on these beaches between easter and 30th September.
These beaches provide the perfect place to launch any Kayaks and boats to further explore the nearby beaches, coves and headlands to the North and south.
Peter's Splosh can be found a short 5 minute walk out of Portscatho on the SW Coast path in the direction of St Anthony. Although tricky to get to this hidden spot provides a sheltered sandy shingle beach nestled amongst the cliffs. If you are after a bit or peace and quiet this may be the place for you. It is also a great spot for fishing. It can be reached by kayak or cliff scramble and is only a short trip along the coast, and is best attempted on calm windless days. There are no facilities at this beach but is ideal for those with dogs as there are no seasonal restrictions.
